Top 10 Earthquakes since 1900

1. Southern Chile - Magnitude 9.5 - May 22, 1960
Caused tsunami over the pacific ocean that killed 61 in Hawaii, 135 in Japan, and 32 in the Philippines.

2. Prince William Sound Alaska - Magnitude 9.1 - March 28, 1964
This earthquake killed 128, 113 of it is from the tsunami that is triggered by the quake.

3. Northern Sumatra - Magnitude 9.1 - December 26, 2004
This quake is responsible for the tsunami that holds the record for the most number of death and the most destructive, this tsunami hits 14 countries in Asia.

4. Russia - Magnitude 9.0 - November 4, 1952
The Russia queke of 1952 is a strong one, fortunately it didn't claim any lives, but it costs an estimated 1 million dollars.

5. Coast of Ecuador - Magnitude 8.8 - January 31, 1906
The earthquake generated a tsunami that struck the coast of Ecuador, Colombia, Hilo, and Hawaii. About 500 to 1500 were killed in Colombia and Ecuador.

6. Coast of Chile - Magnitude 8.8 - February 27, 2010
This quake killed approximately 708 people. It also generated tsunami that hits the island of Juan Fernandez.

7. Rat Island Alaska - Magnitude 8.7 - February 4, 1965
The area affected by the quake were sparsely populated that is why there is little damage and no death toll, however it created a 30-foot tsunami that affected nearby islands.

8. Northern Sumatra - Magnitude 8.6 - March 28, 2005
Created a 10-foot tsunami and killed atleast 1000.

9. Assam and Tibet - Magnitude 8.6 - August 15, 1950
780 people killed in Tibet and 536 in Assam

10. Andreanof Islands Alaska - Magnitude 8.6 - March 9, 1957
Caused $5 million in property damage

yeah it didn't, its really not that strong, its just that the building code in Haiti is not followed or not updated.
